-2¼ cups all-purpose flour
-1 tsp. baking soda
-1 tsp. salt
-1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
-¾ cup granulated sugar
-¾ cup packed brown sugar
-1 tsp. vanilla extract
-2 large eggs
-2 cups (12 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
-Preheat oven to 375°
-Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir morsels. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
-Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for two minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
-Makes about 5 dozen cookies
-Chocolate Bar Cookies: Spread dough across greased sheet, and bake between 18-22 minutes.
-Double Chocolate Cookies: Reduce flour to 1-1/4 cups and baking soda to ½ teaspoons. Beat in 2 packs of chocolate chips melted and cooled after adding egg and vanilla.
-Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies: Beat in 1 cup of peanut butter with butter and sugars.
-Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies: Reduce flour to 1-1/2 cups. Add 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats to flour mixture. Substitute 1 cup raisins for nuts.
-Chocolaholic Cookies: Stir 2 packages of chocolate chips. Drop by scant ¼ cupfuls onto cookie sheets. Bake 12 to 14 minutes. Makes about 22 large cookies.
