Summer Berry Crisp

Ingredients

FILLING:
6 c. assorted berries (blackberries, blueberries, or hulled strawberries)
1 orange zest
1 lemon zest
1 tbs. fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp. orange flavored liquor like Cointreau or Grand Marnier
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch

TOPPING:
3/4 c. unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
6 tbsp. unsalted butter
1/2 c. old fashioned rolled outs (not instant)
1 c. Homemade Creme Fraiche or whipped topping of some sort

Method

Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 375F.

MAKE FILLING:
Place berries, orange and lemon zests, lemon juice, and liquor in large bowl.
Place granulated sugar and cornstarch in small bowl and whisk to combine. Add the sugar mix to the berries and toss gently to combine. Transfer to shallow 2 quart baking dish.

MAKE TOPPING:
Place flour,allspice, brown and granulated sugar, and butter in medium bowl. Using fingers blend in the butter until it is in pea size bits. Add the rolled oats and stir to combine. Sprinkle topping over berries but do not pack it down.

Bake until fruit juices bubble around edges and topping turns golden 30- 35 minutes. Let cool slightly before serving with creme fraiche.
