My mothers recipe and a family christmas tradition

Difficulty: Easy - for beginners

Cooking time:


1 cup soft butter
1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2-1/4 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup chopped nuts
powdered sugar for rolling


Mix butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. Sift together the flour and salt into the sugar/butter mix. Mix in nuts. Chill dough. Roll into 1" balls. Ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400 for 10-12 min. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar. Roll again when cool. Yields 4 dozen.
