Cheery Ginger Sparklers

This recipe can be easily doubled with the same results. During the Christmas season I like to roll the cookie dough in red and green sugar.

Ingredients

½ cup shortening
½ cup white sugar
1 egg
½ cup molasses
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves

Method

In small mixing bowl mix spices and b. powder with flour. In large mixing bowl, cream shortening. Gradually add sugar, egg and molasses. Beat well. Slowly add dry ingredients a little at a time, beating well after each addition. Roll dough into small balls. Roll balls in white sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and press lightly with a fork.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake for 15-18 minutes.
