MC O'Leary's Marinara Sauce

My grandmother's italian marinara sauce (the C in her name is for "Cafiero"!)

Ingredients

2 large sweet yellow onions
2 cloves garlic
1/8 cup olive oil
15-20 white mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
1 can Contadina tomato paste (brands are important)
2 cans Contadina plain tomato sauce
1 13 oz can Progresso whole tomatoes with basil
1/8 cup fresh or 1 heaping tbsp dry basil
1/8 cup fresh or 1 heaping tbsp dry oregano

Method

in large soup pot, saute onions and garlic in olive oil until onions start to get soft. add mushrooms and saute until tender. mix in tomato paste, sauce and whole tomatoes. mash tomatoes with spoon. bring to soft boil; reduce heat and simmer 1.5 hrs.
