Garlic Green Beans

Ingredients

6 cloves garlic
1 tsp sesame seed oil
2 tbs soy sauce
1 1/2 lb green beans
Pinch of sugar
Crushed red pepper (optional)
Sesame seeds (optional)

Method

Either boil or steam fresh green beans for 6-8 minutes. You want them to still be fairly crunchy.

In the mean time, in a small bowl combine the soy sauce, the sesame oil and a pinch of sugar (Note from Elizabeth: the actual recipe calls for 1 tsp sugar but I don’t like that much). Mince the garlic and brown it for about 30 seconds in a large frying pan. Add the green beans. Add the sauce. Mix it all together and let the green beans soften a bit. If you want the green beans softer, turn the burners off and cover the frying pan. Let it all sit for awhile.

Addition notes from my sister-in-law:

I also add crushed red pepper with the garlic. You can also add sesame seeds or more soy sauce/sesame oil.

In my opinion the green beans are best when they are still slightly crisp.

The whole recipe tastes best when it has been sitting for a few hours.
