Aunt Modie's Rolls

Submitted by: Rachel Hoffman-Bayles
Got this great recipie from a friend (Tina Woolfe) in Lemoore, CA. I modified it for the bread machine, turned them into wheat rolls, and reduced the quantity for my smaller family. These rolls turn out so soft and delicious, I always eat too many! Gre

Ingredients

Wheat rolls:
3/4 + 1/8 c warm water
1/4 c veg oil
1 c whole wheat flour
1 1/2 c bread flour
1/2 T yeast
1/6 c sugar
1/2 t salt
1 T molasses
(for white, follow all instructions the same, but use no wheat flour and 2 1/2 c bread flour, and leave out the molasses (or sub honey))

Method

Combine all ingredients in bread machine, liquids first. Set to dough setting and start. (To save on time, you can check your bread machine manual to find out when the first rising cycle ends, and take out the dough at this point, or let it finish the full cycle, rising twice in the machine. Rising an extra time will give your bread a lighter texture). Remove dough from machine, break into a dozen handball sized balls and drop into greased muffin tin cups. Break each ball into halves, roll and press lightly together, returning to the cups. Cover with a clean cloth an let rise in a warm place until double (about 1 hour). Heat oven to 400º and bake for 10-12 min. Remove from oven. Unwrap one end of a stick of butter, and rub on rolls to baste. Serve warm with soup or main dish.
