TARTE TATIN

Ingredients

Pastry:
250 gr flour
125 gr castor sugar
125 gr soft margarine/butter (room temperature)
1 large egg (room temperature)
Salt (1 large pinch)

Filling:
1 kg or 6 large green apples
50gr Unsalted Butter
3 table spoon castor sugar

cake tin 24 cm

Method

Preheat the oven 220 Deg C
1)Place the flour, egg, sugar and salt in a large bowl, mix and knead until smooth
Leave to rest for 30 minutes
2)Peel all the apples. Cut eight of them into quarters, and scoop out the cores. It is very important to heavily scoop out the apples so that they will interlock with each other. Keep, covered.
3) Melt the butter in a pan over a medium heat, Add the apples and sugar and stir until it turns brown . Turn off the heat and leave to cool down for a few minutes. It's very important to drain off any excess butter.
4) Place the apples upright around the tin, back to back rounded side to scooped-out side..
Roll the dough out on a floured board with a floured rolling pin and cut a circle to fit inside the tin. Lift it gently and lay it over the apples, pressing down on them gently
5) Bake at 220 Deg C for 25 - 30 minutes or until it is lightly browned. Remove the tart from the oven and allow to cool down for minimum 15 min.
6) Turn the tart out on to a flat serving dish, pastry side down, and serve it with vanilla ice cream
