1 c. flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c. shortening
2-3 tbsp cold water
1 c. walnuts
2/3 c sugar
1 c. maple sirup
1/3 c, melted margarine or butter
Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream opt.
Combine flour and salt . cut in shortening with pastry cutter blend until mixture is uniform and represent small peas. Add water 1 tbsp at the time mixing lightly with a fork. Shape dough into a firm ball with hand. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8" thickness. Place in a 9" pie plate. Trim and flute edge
Spread walnuts in pie shell. Beat next 5 ingredients together thoroughly. Pour over walnut. Bake on lower oven rack at 425F for 10 min. then at 350F for 30 min. or just until set.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired
To prevent soggy bottom pie crust, bake pie on the lower oven rack, This cook the pastry before the filling has a chance to seep through. Another trick is to brush the unbaked pie with lightly beaten egg white before filling
