1/2 cup butter/margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cups sour milk (you can sour regular milk by adding in 1 tsp of lemon juice to make 3/4 cups)
3/4 cups boiling water
--------------------------------------------------------------
ICING -
6 tbsp. melted butter
2-2/3 cups icing sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla (optional)
This recipe is best made in a food processor/mixer, but you can mix by hand as well.
Place butter, sugar, eggs into a bowl/mixer. Blend together. In a separate bowl mix cocoa, flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add to wet mixture, continuously blending. Add in sour milk, blend. Add in boiling water, blend some more - always add the water last.
Pour into a 9x13" rectangular pan; or you can use 2 circular pans. When you ice the circular cakes, ice one layer, then place the 2nd circle on top and ice that one.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before icing. To make icing, mix together all ingredients until smooth. Spread over cake. Yum!
