Vinegar Cake

1lb flour
1/2 lb sugar
1/2 lb butter
1/2 lb currants
1/4 lb stoned raisans
3 tablespoonfuls vinegar
1 teaspoonful bicarbonate of soda
just over 1/4 pint of milk


Rub the butter into the flour, add fruit and sugar. Put the milk into a large jug, and add the vinegar. Mix the bicarbonate of soda with a little warm milk and pour it into the milk and vinegar quickly, taking car to hold the jug over the cake mixture, as it will froth up. Stir into the flour, fruit, etc, put into a well greased cake tin and bake in a hot oven for the first 1/2 hour, then a cooler one.
