My own spin on Grandma's Apple Pie

Serves: 8


1 3/4 C All purpose Flour
3/4 C Cake and Pastry Flour
Good Pinch a Baking Powder
Pinch a Salt
Good Pinch a Sugar
6TBSP Crisco
1/2 C butter
3 cups a Apples (and whatever other fruit you wanna be creative with. I use dry cherries, blueberries, bananas, strawberries, rhubarb)
5 TBSP water/vinegar mixture
1 egg

Spice (I include Chinese 5 Spice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice and sugars

Fruit Mix:

Fruit above, cinnamon, TBSP butter, 1/2 cup Sugar, other spices above as desired
3 TBSP flour


Mix together flours and dry ingredients

Cut in crisco and butter with pastry blender until it resembles course texture adding spice if desires(but only a bit)
Spoon in water/vinegar mixture

Mix into dough (It will seem wet)

Flour surface and take half the dough and roll it out until its about 1/8 in. Remember to make sure it will hang over the edge of the pie dish.(Oversize it)

Pour fruit mixture into the shell

Top with pieces of butter and sprinkle with flour

Roll out remaining dough for the top

Using a fork, design, carve, cut, poke, slice or otherwise mark for steam release from the inside as it cooks. Sprinkle top with spices and or sugar

Bake at 350 for 45 min or until crust is golden brown

Cool on a rack until you can put it in your fridge

Serve with your choice of ice cream, whip cream, icing sugar drizzle or cream cheese icing
