2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. butter softened
3/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
2 tbs. granulated sugar and/or colored sugar


- Preheat oven to 350
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt: set aside
- Beat butter on medium speed 30 seconds
- Add powdered sugar, beat until mixed
- Beat in flour mixture
- Press dough into ungreased 8x8x2 inch pan
- Prick top of dough all over with a fork
- Sprinkle with granulated or colored sugar
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until top is lightly browned
- Cool in pan or on wire rack for 10 minutes
- Invert shortbread onto a cutting board
