Homemade Vanilla Extract

Stop buying that cheap imitation crap at the store and make your own. It's much better!

Preparation time: mere minutes
Cooking time: 4-6 months

Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
Serves: 1 bottle


1 Madagascar vanilla bean (search Ebay)
1 bottle of vodka


Split vanilla bean lengthwise with a sharp knife.
Place in jar or bottle.
Cover the bean completely with vodka.
Seal tightly.
Let stand in a cool, dark place for 4 to 6 months.
Shake jar occasionally during the standing time.

If you do this soon, you will have authentic vanilla extract for your holiday baking.
