Fruit freeze

3/4 c. granulated sugar
1 c. half-and-half ("traditional")
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract (optional) [I prefer not to use vanilla with canteloupe or honeydew]
1 lb frozen fruit {canteloupe|honeydew|strawberries|raspberries|peaches|pitted cherries}


0. Make sure that the half-and-half is very cold, right out of the refrigerator.
1. Put sugar and half-and-half into a blender. Add vanilla extract, if using. Pulse until the sugar is dissolved.
2. Take frozen fruit out of the freezer, and put it into the blender. Blend on high until the mixture resembles soft-serve ice cream. You may need to turn off the blender and stir the mixture with a large spoon or silicone spatula a few times to get it distributed so that all the chunks of fruit can be evenly blended.
3. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container, and put in the freezer for at least 12 hours (preferably 24 hours) to set.
