Penne with Green Beans and Basil

8 oz penne, cooked as directed on pkg
1 lb green beans, trimmed and halved
1 c loosely packed fresh basil leaves, cleaned and de-stemmed
1/4 c extra virgin olive oil
1/2 t coarsely ground black pepper
1 med tomato, diced


Prepare pasta as directed on package and drain. Rinse under cold water. Allow to drain again.

In a skillet, heat 1" of water to boiling over high heat. Add beans and sprinkle with 1/2 tsp salt. Heat to boiling. Cook 8-10 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain. Rinse beans under cold water. Allow to drain again.

In a blender at high speed, combine basil, oil, and 1 Tbs water until almost smooth. Transfer basil puree to a lg bowl. stir in pepper and 1 tsp salt.

Toss pasta, beans, and tomato into basil sauce.
