Difficulty: Medium - experience needed
3 c flour (not self-rising)
6 t baking powder
3 T lard
1 c milk
1 t salt
1 T sugar
Grease a cast iron dutch oven and lid. Place both in the coals to start preheating.
Sift the dry ingredients together. Mold the lard in by hand until the mixture is flaky. Add the milk to moisten the dough. Roll or pat the dough out to a 1" thickness on a floured board.
Cut out biscuits ( a clean glass or empty can works well). Place the cut biscuits into the dutch oven. Touching is okay but do not overcrowd.
Place the preheated lid on the dutch oven. Fill the top rim with hot coals.
Baking takes about 20 minutes. Lift the lid periodically to check when the biscuits have browned.
