Dog Cookies

Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 5-10 min

Serves: 1½ dozen


1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup white flour
¾ cup dry milk powder
½ cup quick rolled oats
1 tsp sugar
¼ cup yellow cornmeal
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tbsp instant chicken or beef bouillon granules
½ cup hot water


1) Combine the flours, milk powder, rolled oats, cornmeal, and sugar in a medium bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg.
2) Stir bouillon into hot water until dissolved. Slowly pour into the flour mixture, stirring with a fork to moisten.
3) Form dough into ball and knead on floured board for 5 minutes. Divide dough in half; roll out each half ½-inch thick. Make cut-outs with cookies cutter. Arrange 6 shapes on a 10-inch plate.
4) Microwave at medium for 5-10 miuntes or until cookies are firm and dry to the touch. Rotate plate every 2 minutes and turn shapes over after half the time. Cool on wire rack.
