Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
2 cups of all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp cold vegetable shortening
1/2 cup warm water
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in shortening - use a dough mixer or if you don't have one of those just use a fork and mix the shortening with the flour - will look like peas in flour. Add enough warm water to make a soft dough. Knead on a well floured surface, 3-5 min or until shiny and elastic. Cover and let rest 30 minutes. Form dough into 2-3 inch balls. On lightly floured surface roll into 7 inch circles. Cook in hot ungreased skillet or griddle 2 minutes or until slightly brown both sides.
