Ingredients

Main Ingredients:
1 loaf Thick bread
8 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Dash salt
ΒΌ cup icing sugar
Maple syrup

Pecan/ or Walnut streusel Topping:
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans / or walnuts
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Method

Directions

In a large bowl combine the eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and beat with a whisk until blended
Arrange one layer of bread slices in a generously buttered 9 by 13-inch flat baking dish. Pour one half of the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered. Sprinkle some pecans or Walnuts over layer.
Arrange a second layer of bread slices on top and pour the remaining half of the egg mixture over covering all the bread.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and make topping.

Pecan/ or Walnut streusel Topping:
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans / or walnuts
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Combine ingredients in a medium bowl and fork together.
Spread Topping evenly over the bread and bake for 40 minutes or until puffed and lightly golden.

Serve with a dusting of the icing sugar through a sifter and a drizzle of maple syrup.
