Toffee Bars

Ingredients

1 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg yolk
1 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 package chocolate chips; milk or semi-sweet
1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, stir butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg yolk until well mixed. Stir in flour and salt. Press dough in ungreased 13" x 9" pan. BAke 25 to 30 minutes or until VERY LIGHT brown (crust will be soft.) Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over hot crust. Let stand about 5 minutes or until soft; spread evenly. Sprinkle with nuts. Cool 10 minutes in pan on a wire rack. To cut into bars easily, cut into 8 rows by 4 rows while still warm.
