Macaroni Cheese

An old-fashioned macaroni cheese recipes, using breadcrumbs and the oven

Serves: 4


300g pasta
4 tbsp flour
2tbsp butter
3 cups milk
1 onion, chopped
2 cups grated cheese
1 rasher bacon, finely chopped
1 pinch cayenne


Melt butter and add bacon, onions & cayenne. Cook for 1 minute.

Remove from heat and mix in flour, then gradually add milk.

Return to heat and stir until thickens (be VERY careful not to let the mixture boil)

Add 3/4 of the cheese and stir until metled.

Add cooked maccaroni and pour into an oven-proof dish. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and remaining cheese and bake until golden.
