Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
1 c flour
1 1/2 c powder sugar
1/2 c chopped slivered almond pieces
1/2 c sweet butter
Preheat oven to 350. Combine flour, sugar, and chopped almonds.
Make a well in the dry mixture and place the softened butter in the middle. Fold and mix until a dough is formed.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/8 inch thickness. Use a 3" cookie cutter or glass to make cookie rounds from dough. Re-roll excess and continue cutting cookies until all dough is used.
Place the cookies on cookie sheets and bake for 25-30 minutes or until pale golden color.
Remove the sheets from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before removing cookies to a cooling rack. Sprinkle with powder sugar while warm.
