Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
1.5 lb. top sirloin or a 1.5 lb. brisket
1 large onion
3 carrots cut into chunks/thick slices
3 celery sticks
1 14oz. can diced tomatoes (undrained)
1 large yam cubed
1-2 yukon gold potatoes cubed
Bisto gravy mix (don't have to buy it if you prefer not use it)
If using sirloin: Cut meat into 2" cubes and roll in 1/4 c flour with salt/pepper added.
If using brisket: trim excess fat layer off back of meat and DON'T cube, leave whole
Heat 2 tbsp of oil in frying pan and brown meat briefly before putting into crock pot.
Place meat into crock pot, pour cut vegetables on top of meat.
Pour can of tomatoes over top.
If using bisto: Mix 2 Tbsp bisto w/ remaining flour from meat and 1 c. water. Whisk together and pour into crock pot.
Not using Bisto, you can use 1 c. beef broth and whisk in the remaining flour mixture from meat. Pour into crock pot.
Place lid on crock pot, Cook on Low for 6-8 hours until meat is done. If using brisket, the meat will fall apart easily.
Experiment with the vegetables and quantities :)
