Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
1/4 t black pepper
2 lbs sirloin tip steaks, cubed & drained
(may substitute cut for round steak if using the crock pot)
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 C finely chopped onions
1 1/4 C beef broth
1/3 C dry red wine or cooking red wine (can also use more beef broth)
1 T soy sauce
2 T cornstarch
1/4 C cold water
Place skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle pepper over cubed tips. Brown on all sides. Add garlic & onions, cook til onions are translucent.
Add broth, soy & wine and heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover & simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. In small bowl combine water & cornstarch until smooth. Slowly pour into mixture, stirring constantly to thicken to a gravy.
**If using a crock pot, brown as directed above, then place all ingredients EXCEPT cornstarch & water into the slow cooker. Place on low for up to 8 hours or high for 4. When meat is tender, follow directions to use cornstarch to thicken the juices into gravy.
