6 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp allspice
16 cloves (Mom uses 25 per orange)
3 cups apple cider
2 cups cranberry juice (not cocktail)
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp aromatic bitters
If there's no cranberry juice that's not cocktail, even amounts of cranberry juice, orange juice, and grape juice can be used.
Stick oranges with cloves (with or without peels). Combine all ingredients in a large crock pot or regular pot (like the type you'd use to make a huge amount of red sauce). Simmer 10 minutes. If desired, stir in 1 cup dark rum. Makes 9-10 (small) cups.
