Nana's Chop Suey or Chow Mein

Difficulty: Easy - for beginners


1/4 c butter
2 c ground beef, cooked
1 med onion, peeled and chopped
2 c celery, diced
1 tsp salt
dash pepper
1 can bean sprouts
1 1/2 c hot water

Thickening and Flavoring
3 Tbs cold water
3 Tbs cornstarch
1 Tbs soy sauce
1 tsp sugar


Melt butter in skillet. Add onion and cook for 3 minutes. Add salt, celery, pepper, and hot water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add bean sprouts and meat. Mix thoroughly and cook 5 minutes.

Combine thickening and flavoring ingredients. Mix well. Stir into meat mixture and continue cooking for 1 minute.

Serve over rice or noodles.
