Difficulty: Easy - for beginners
2 c flour
1/2 c shortning melted
1 c sugar
1/4 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
3 ripe bananas crushed
1 c chopped nuts
Mix ingredients in the order given.
Place in two regular bread pans that are slightly floured or lined with waxed paper to prevent browning too fast.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
Let cool for 10 minutes then turn out of pans.
Wrap in aluminum foil. Bread will keep for weeks if refrigerated. Recipe may be tripled to make 7 loaves. Has been used for 75 years
