1 1/2 cups hearty red wine
1 1/2 pounds small pears
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 whole star anise
1 cup Ah love 25-Star or Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar
Orange peel cut in fine strips
Peel, stem, core and cut the pears in quarters. Combine all ingredients in a heavy pot and simmer over low heat until the pears are for tender and the wine has reduced by half (about 20 minutes). Serve the pears and syrup over ice cream, cake, pudding or yogurt. You can also top with sabayon or whipped cream. Also delicious by themselves; an elegant dessert.
You substitute pears with apples, persimmons, apricots, plums or any stone fruit.
