1 cup vaal dal
potatoes or sweet potatoes, cubed
Soak val dahl in beans for 4 hours or overnight.
Cover dal with at least 1 inch of water in a saucepan and cook for 20-30 minutes until soft.
Heat oil in another saucepan.
Cook onion, garlic and ginger until soft.
Add potato and garam masala.
Cook, stirring a few minutes until potatoes are a little soft.
Add the vaal dal, mix well, cover and simmer for about 10 minutes until potatoes are tender and dal is very soft.
