Swiss and mushroom burgers

1 (12.8 ounce) package vegetable burgerss
4 slices (1/4 ounce each) Swiss cheese
1 tablespoon butter
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
1 medium red onion, halved, sliced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
4 whole wheat hamburger buns


Cook burgers according to package directions. Top each burger with 1 cheese slice, let stand for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, melt butter in 10-inch skillet until sizzling. Add mushrooms, onion and thyme. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened (5 to 7 minutes). Drain, if necessary. Place burgers on buns, top with mushroom mixture.
