Muffin buns

Ingredients

1/4 cup warm water
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 envelope (1/4 ounc) active dry yeast
1 cup very warm (not hot) milk
2 tablespoons cooking oil
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 large egg, fork-beaten
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon butter, softened

Method

Stir water and first amount of sugar in small bowl until sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle yeast over top. Let stand for ten mnutes. Stir to dissolve yeast. Combine nest 4 ingredients in large bowl. Add yeast mixture. Beat until smooth. Add flour, in 3 or 4 additions, mixing well after each addition. Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover with tea towel. Place in oven with light on and door closed for 1 hour until doubled. Punch down. divide into 12 pieces. Place in greased muffin pan. Cover with tea towel. Place in oven with light on and door closed for approximately 30 minutes until size doubled. Bake on low rack of oven at 400 degrees F for about 15 minutes. Turn on wire rack to cool. Brush warm rolls with butter.
