Beef Kushisashi

Difficulty: Easy - for beginners


½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup chopped green onions and tops
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 ½ teaspoons cornstarch
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
2 ½ pounds boneless beef sirloin steak.


Blend all ingredients except steak in small saucepan. Simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cover and set aside. Slice beef into ½-inch thick strips about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. Thread onto skewers, keeping meat as flat as possible. Brush both sides of beef with sauce. Place skewers on rack of boiler pan. Broil to desired degree of doneness.
