Aunt Helen's Raisin Cakes

Ingredients

1 c raisins
1 c water
1 c sugar
1 egg
1/4 c melted lard
1 3/4 c flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda

Icing
2 Tbs butter
6 Tbs rich milk
6 Tbs brown sugar
powdered sugar

Method

Boil raisins in water until the water makes 2/3 cup.

Pour off in a cup and add soda while hot. Pour while hot over sugar and lard mixture. Add rest of ingredients being careful not to cook the egg in the hot mixture.

Spread thin on a cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes in moderate oven.

Icing - mix together the butter, milk, and sugar. Let it just boil. Beat in powdered sugar until it reaches the desired consistency.

Ice the cookies and cut them into squares.
