Southern Pecan Pie

1 lb light brown sugar
3/4 c water
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 c butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1 unbaked 9" pie shell
1 c pecan halves


Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and cook 3 minutes. Gradually add hot syrup to eggs, stirring constantly. Add butter and vanilla. Pour into a pie shell. Arrange pecans on filling.

Bake in moderate oven 350 F about 1 hour or until set. Cool.
