Pat's Calico Beans *includes campfire method

Ingredients

CALICO BEANS - Pat H.
1 lb. ground beef
2 tsp. salt
½ lb. chopped bacon
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 large onion, chopped
1 (29 oz.) can pork & beans, undrained
1 cup ketchup
1 (15 oz.) can garbanzo beans, undrained
1 Tbs. dry mustard
1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans, undrained
1 Tbs. vinegar
1 lb. frozen lima beans
½ cup molasses, optional (I used maple syrup)

Method

Fry bacon in cast iron pot. Add ground beef and onion. Cook 7 to 10 minutes. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Cover and bake over campfire for 1 hour at 350ÌŠ. 6 to 8 coals bottom, 14 to 18 top. (I put mine uncovered in a 350ÌŠ oven for a couple of hours, or until just right.)
