Ingredients

1 1/4 lbs medium oatmeal
3/4 lb flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2lbs treacle
1/2 lb butter
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1/4 pint milk

Method

Mix all the dry ingredients together. Warm the treacle and butter together and dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the slightly warm milk and mix well together.

Grease a large pudding tin or two small ones and bake in a moderate oven for 3/4 hour or until it is firm to the touch.
