A moist cornbread with a little sweetness to it.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Butter a 9-inch square or 7x11 baking dish.
Sift together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, oil, brown sugar and yogurt or buttermilk. Make a well in the dry ingredients and stir in the wet ingredients until just blended; be careful not to overmix.
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
