Montecao Cookies

Montecao Cookies
Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 22 minutes Serves: ~ 24


Old-world Spanish cookies that are melt-in-your-mouth delicious :)


  • 5 cups of flour, sifted
  • 3 tbs granulated sugar
  • 2 tbs baking powder
  • 1 tbs lemon extract
  • 2 tbs anise extract
  • 2 oz whiskey
  • 1 cup white wine (preferably Sauternes)
  • 1 lb lard (melted)


Mix all ingredients in the order above. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate overnight.

Roll the dough out to a half-inch thickness. Cut with favorite cookie cutters.

Bake for 22 minutes at 375. (Do not allow the cookies to get darker than a light brown.)

When the cookies are cool enough to handle (but still hot), roll them in granulated sugar to coat.

Enjoy with a cup of cocoa or a mug of coffee. :)
